Once heavy logging is stopped, other trees and shrubs take over the forest for centuries until redwood trees eventually fill the canopy and regain control of the forest floor. Old Growth Again Restoration Forestry selects five redwood trees per acre and protects them in the property deed from ever being cut. By thinning other trees, shrubs and poorly spaced or suppressed young redwood trees back to a healthy ratio, the redwood trees dedicated to old growth are allowed to flourish and take over the forest floor in a couple short decades. Most of the Young grade of redwood used to make Forever Redwood outdoor furniture is cut because they lack potential to live thousands of years and challenge the redwood trees that do have the potential. The Old Growth grades of redwood are from old trees that have already fallen. It’s amazing how a 1000-year old tree that has fallen 50 years ago is naturally preserved on the forest floor. Redwood is truly the perfect material for outdoor furniture. While plantation grown trees are becoming common in furniture and its very good for the environment, Old Growth Again Restoration Forestry is the first of its kind and is proving a revolutionary environmental and economic model with worldwide potential.
