A loft bed is the name given to a type of bed that typically has an upper 'bunk' style bed raised above the floor. Loft beds are supported at the head and foot of the bed by a structure as simple as legs and frame that are braced for strength or as elaborate as legs and frame containing a desk and or storage space. The storage space for loft bed furniture can include open shelving, drawers and space concealed by doors. Furniture loft beds provide valuable storage space to keep a room free from clutter. Loft bed furniture utilizes air space in a bedroom creating space below the bed that can be used. Generally used in a child's bedroom, kids loft beds are most often available in twin size. A loft kids bed can provide space for homework, art projects and study and extra room to keep toys, clothes or childhood treasures off the floor. There are a variety of names for bed loft furniture including loft bunk beds, loft twin bed and loft bed with desk. In some configurations, a separate twin bed will fit perpendicular underneath the upper bed or a low loft bed that does not sit as high as a regular bunk bed above the floor.
